The PGT lines explained.

PGT groups its products into lines. Each line is aimed at a different kind of project, budget and look.

WinGuard Vinyl

Best for: Homeowners who want impact protection and the best energy figures in PGT's range, in a vinyl frame.

  • Impact: Large and small missile
  • Finishes: White, Beige, Bronze, Black
Full details

WinGuard Vinyl pairs a welded, multi-chambered vinyl frame with laminated or laminated insulating impact glass. Windows have a 3-1/2 inch frame, and data-sheet U-values run about 0.24 to 0.38 with insulating laminated glass, far lower than WinGuard Aluminum. The line covers single-hung, double-hung, horizontal roller, casement, awning, picture and shaped windows, sliding glass doors with up to four tracks (including the narrow-stile SGD5570NS) and the FD5555 French door. PGT's lighter Triton impact glass is available on these products. Most series hold Miami-Dade NOAs; the narrow-stile door carries a Florida Product Approval.

WinGuard Aluminum

Best for: Homeowners who want aluminum frames, large multi-panel sliding doors or a clear anodized finish.

  • WinGuard Aluminum uses extruded aluminum frames, 2-3/4 inches deep on most windows, with laminated or laminated insulating impact glass
  • Impact: Large and small missile
  • Finishes: White, Bronze, Black, Clear Anodize
Full details

WinGuard Aluminum uses extruded aluminum frames, 2-3/4 inches deep on most windows, with laminated or laminated insulating impact glass. It is the line for big sliding-glass openings: the SGD770 and narrow-interlock SGD770NS take up to eight panels on four tracks, with pocket and corner options. Aluminum conducts more heat, so data-sheet U-values (about 0.39 to 0.71 across the line) are higher than WinGuard Vinyl's. Clear anodized is offered alongside white, bronze and black. The windows and the SGD770 hold Miami-Dade NOAs, with design pressures up to +90/-130 psf on several windows; the SGD770NS and FD160 carry Florida Product Approvals.

Can True Impact supply and install PGT products?

Yes. True Impact Windows & Doors supplies and installs PGT impact windows and doors across Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties. If you want to compare, we can also quote another brand.

What is the difference between the SH5500 and SH7700A?

Both are WinGuard impact single-hungs with Miami-Dade NOAs for large and small missiles. The SH5500 has a deeper 3-1/2 inch vinyl frame and much better insulation: data-sheet U-values of 0.29 to 0.33, against 0.51 to 0.58 for the aluminum SH7700A. The SH7700A has a slimmer 2-3/4 inch aluminum frame, a slightly higher positive design pressure in its NOA, and a clear anodized finish option. Sizes are similar. In most air-conditioned homes the vinyl unit saves more energy; aluminum suits buyers who want that look or finish.

What is the difference between the SGD770 and SGD770NS?

Both are WinGuard Aluminum impact sliding glass doors that take up to eight panels on four tracks, with pocket and corner options. The SGD770NS has 2.5 inch interlocks, half the width of standard interlocks, so there is more glass and less frame. Openings reach 48 feet with the NS and 40 feet with the SGD770. The main paperwork difference: the SGD770 has Miami-Dade NOAs (including high-performance versions), while the SGD770NS carries Florida Product Approval FL33106, rated for the HVHZ. Design pressure for both depends on panel size and glass.

What warranty comes with PGT products?

PGT publishes its own warranty terms, linked on this page. Coverage and conditions depend on the product and finish, and the documents for your project are included with your proposal.
