Impact windows for South Florida homes

Keep the view you love. Upgrade the windows around it.

Keep the South Florida light. Upgrade what stands between your home and the weather.

Impact windows pair laminated glass with a frame, hardware and anchors that are tested and approved together as one assembly. True Impact plans, permits and installs them for homes and condos across Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties, matched to each measured opening.

Protection is a system.

Impact windows combine laminated glazing with a frame, hardware, and anchors tested as an assembly. Selecting strong glass alone is not enough. The product configuration and installation details need to match your actual opening.

Find your kind of window.

Start with how you want a room to look, feel, and open. Available options depend on the selected product and project requirements.

  • Single hung: the lower sash moves vertically; a familiar choice for bedrooms and everyday spaces.
  • Horizontal roller: one or more panels slide sideways; useful for wide openings.
  • Casement: a hinged sash opens outward for ventilation and a clean frame profile.
  • Picture / fixed: a non-opening window for light and views.
  • Architectural shapes and combinations: coordinate fixed and operable openings, subject to approved sizes and configurations.

The details behind the view.

Review positive and negative design pressures, approved opening dimensions, glass make-up, frame finish, anchorage, water resistance, and air infiltration. Bedroom openings may also need to meet emergency escape requirements. Your proposal should identify the actual system, not just “impact glass.”

Make everyday comfort part of the brief.

Consider glare, solar heat, privacy, ventilation, and street noise alongside storm protection. Low-E coatings and glass packages address different needs; select them using the whole-window performance data.

Measure. Document. Install.

Final field measurements come before ordering. The installation scope should cover the existing opening, anchoring substrate, sealing, finishing, permits, inspection, and operation checks. See our process for the questions to settle before installation day.

Check any product approval yourself in the Florida Product Approval search or the Miami-Dade product approvals (NOA). Page updated .

Single hungA familiar look. Vertical ventilation.

The lower sash moves up while the upper sash stays fixed. Consider operating height, cleaning access, and room requirements.

One or more panels slide horizontally. Compare moving panels, clear opening width, screen options, and how easily you can reach the locks.

A hinged sash opens outward. Plan for clearance near walkways, patios, landscaping, and neighboring openings.

A fixed window frames the view without opening. Consider ventilation elsewhere and whether the room requires an emergency escape opening.

Before you get started

Questions homeowners ask first.

Costs, timing, approvals, and the details worth asking about.

All your questions, answered
Are impact windows hurricane proof?

No window is indestructible. Impact-rated assemblies are tested for defined conditions. The complete system—glass, frame, anchors, and installation—must be suitable for the opening and applicable requirements. Continue to follow local storm and evacuation guidance.

Do I still need shutters?

A properly approved impact-rated opening may provide the required opening protection without a separate shutter. That does not mean every opening in a home is protected. Confirm the complete home’s protection plan and the specific product approval with your project professional.

Will I save on energy or insurance?

Modern glass packages can improve thermal performance compared with many older systems. Insurance considerations depend on your home, carrier, inspection, and policy. Neither bill savings nor premium reductions are guaranteed.

Can I replace only some of my windows?

Phasing may be possible, subject to the project’s requirements. Plan for matching finishes, future product availability, repeat permit costs, and openings that will still need storm protection. Replacing selected windows does not protect the entire home.
