Series comparisons
GIG series compared. Every window, door and system, side by side.
How the GIG range fits together.
GIG keeps its range simple: one series for each type of opening, all in the same finishes and tints. Window frames are 2-3/8 in. to 2-3/4 in. deep, the patio doors run from 4-1/2 in. to 12-5/8 in., and the commercial systems are 4-1/2 in. and 6 in. What changes from series to series is the glass the approval allows, the largest approved size and the design pressure at that size. A headline rating applies only to the size and glass listed for it. The approval for the exact size, glass and wall governs, and True Impact confirms the current approval for each opening before permitting. GIG has no impact pivot door or thermally broken door. The full lineup is on our GIG Windows page, and every approval is on the GIG Windows product approvals page.

Operable windows: S-20000 vs S-18000 vs S-8000.
GIG's three operable windows share finishes and tints and are approved in Florida for high-velocity hurricane zones. The S-20000 single-hung is the traditional choice and the lowest-cost operable window in the range. It also reaches the highest full-size rating, +120/-150 psf with 7/16 in. SentryGlas glass. The S-18000 slides sideways in two or three panels and spans up to 111-1/8 in. wide, but its approval drawing lists only 7/16 in. laminated glass. It costs slightly more than the single-hung. The S-8000 casement and awning crank outward, seal with a multipoint lock and pair with a matching fixed unit. S-8000 cost depends on size, glass and layout. Ask us for a side-by-side quote.

Single-hung: the S-20000, glass by glass.
The S-20000 is a fixed top lite over a sliding bottom sash, with equal or uneven (oriel) sashes. Frames go up to 53-1/8 in. wide x 74-1/4 in. tall in cases I, II and IV of approval drawing 23-217, and up to 44 in. wide in case III. Its rating depends on the glass, so choosing the glass is really choosing the rating. A sill-mounted self-closing egress lock, a hidden block-and-tackle balance and an extruded screen frame are standard. Brochure values (2022): U-factor 1.05 with laminated glass, and 0.75 clear or 0.65 low-E with insulated laminated glass. Low-E or a SentryGlas interlayer adds noticeably to cost. See our Impact Single-Hung Window page.

| 5/16 in. laminated (PVB) | +80/-80 psf |
| 7/16 in. laminated (PVB, heat-strengthened) | +90/-90 psf |
| 7/16 in. laminated (SentryGlas, heat-strengthened) | Up to +120/-150 psf at the full 53-1/8 x 74-1/4 in. frame |
| 11/16 in. insulated laminated (tempered outer lite, argon space) | +/-80 psf (Case I only) |
Sliding windows: the S-18000 by layout.
The S-18000 slides side to side in two-panel (XO or OX) or three-panel (XOX) layouts, with equal lites or a 1/4-1/2-1/4 layout. Its approval drawing lists one glass thickness, 7/16 in. heat-strengthened laminated, with a PVB (type 29A) or SentryGlas (type 29B) interlayer; there is no insulated option. At the largest sizes, 74-1/4 in. tall with PVB glass, it rates +90/-100 psf. Smaller frames with SentryGlas reach up to +100/-150 psf, for example an XO at 74-1/4 x 56-1/4 in. A jamb-mounted self-closing egress lock, double weatherstripping and a weeped sill are standard. Brochure values (2022): U-factor 1.08, SHGC 0.58 clear or 0.30 with SB-70. See our Impact Sliding Window page.

Casement, awning and fixed: the S-8000 family.
The S-8000 family has three Florida approvals: FL42471 for the outswing casement, FL42472 for the project-out awning and FL42521 for the matching fixed unit, sold as the fixed casement. All three share a 2-3/4 in. frame, so they combine neatly in one opening. At the largest sizes each is rated +/-72 psf with any listed glass; smaller units, about 37 x 63 in., reach up to +/-120 psf with SentryGlas laminated glass. The approval drawings list 5/16 in., 7/16 in. and 9/16 in. laminated and 11/16 in. insulated laminated glass. Each approval has its own schedules, and values do not transfer between them. Fixed glass: S-21000 vs S-8000 fixed.
Both are non-opening impact windows, and neither meets egress. Choose the S-8000 fixed when it sits next to S-8000 casements or awnings, so the frames match; it tops out at 42 x 74 in. Choose the S-21000 for bigger glass or shapes such as circles, half circles, arches, octagons, hexagons, ellipses, trapezoids and pentagons. Shapes are rated by the rectangle that encloses them. With 9/16 in. SentryGlas glass, the S-21000 reaches +130/-154 psf in narrower units, and narrow units can run up to 180 in. long. Larger glass lowers the rating, for example +90.3/-106.9 psf at 72 x 83 in. Shape, size and glass drive the cost. Ask us for a side-by-side quote. See our Impact Picture Window page.

Patio doors: S-24000 French door vs S-26000 slider.
The S-24000 swings outward on hinges, so the whole doorway opens and the door stays out of the room. Doubles reach 6 ft 8 in. wide at up to 8 ft 4 in. tall and +/-70 psf, or 10 ft tall at +/-45 psf, and sidelites and transoms widen the look. It is large-missile rated. The S-26000 saves swing space and goes much bigger: up to 144 in. tall, with 2- to 5-track frames, pockets and a corner option. It is approved for large and small missile and offers more glass choices, including 9/16 in. laminated. Per square foot of opening, the two are similar in cost. Ask us for a side-by-side quote. See our Impact Entry Door page.

Wide openings: the S-26000 by track count.
Track count sets the S-26000's frame depth and how many panels it can carry. Frames go up to 144 in. tall with reinforced meeting stiles and panels to 50 in. wide. Total frame width can reach about 75 ft at up to 120 in. tall with panels to 60 in. wide, or about 63 ft at up to 144 in. tall. Ratings run from +/-60 psf at 120 in. tall with large panels to +100/-100 psf at 84 in. tall, and a small-missile row with glass B1 reaches +100/-140 psf. The final rating is the lower of the positive and negative lookups and depends on reinforcement, sill riser and anchors. Sill heights are 3-1/2, 4 or 5-3/8 in. More tracks and panels mean more cost. See our Impact Multitrack Sliding Door page.

Commercial systems: S-70000 vs S-12000.
Most homeowners only need GIG's residential windows and patio doors. The S-70000 and S-12000 are storefront systems for shops, offices and lobbies. The S-70000 is a 4-1/2 in. storefront with an integrated outswing entrance door. Its door cases include a 7 x 7 ft frame at +/-140 psf and a 6 ft 8 in. x 10 ft frame at +/-72 psf, with panic-device options, and it can suit a large modern home entry. The S-12000 is a deeper 6 in. frame for bigger glass walls and longer spans. It is sold as a storefront and approved in Florida as a fixed glass wall. Neither has a single rating: mullion span, spacing, glass, anchors and substrate set it. See our Impact Window Wall page.

Mullions and the railing: S-14000 and S-28000.
The S-14000 is not a window. It is an approved clipped aluminum mullion that joins two or more approved windows or doors into one larger opening, such as a fixed window beside casements or a door with sidelites. It is rated on its own, without help from the attached frames, and the units it joins need their own approvals. Ratings vary widely: one wood-substrate chart lists 183.1 psf for a 38-3/8 in. mullion but 73.2 psf at 96 in. long, at a 20 in. tributary width. It is priced with the units it joins. The S-28000 glass railing is a different case. No current Florida approval is listed for it; ask us before specifying it. See our Window & Door Mullions page.
