Series comparisons

Mr. Glass series compared. MG-200 vs MG-350 SH and every line.

How Mr. Glass series differ in frame, glass, size, rating and cost: MG-200 vs MG-350 SH, sliders, fixed windows, doors, window walls and mullions.

Start with frame depth, glass and the approval.

Mr. Glass often offers two or three series for the same opening. The differences come down to a few things: frame depth, the glass builds the approval allows, the largest approved size, the design pressure in psf, and whether there is a small-missile (SMI) version. Within each product type, cost follows those features, from budget-friendly to mid-range to premium. One rule covers everything below. The approval for the exact size, glass and wall governs, and a series rated +80/−140 psf does not reach that rating at every size or with every glass. When a catalog and an approval differ, the approval wins. True Impact confirms the current approval for each opening before permitting. The full lineup is on our Mr. Glass page, and every approval is on the Mr. Glass product approvals page.

Single-hung: MG-200 vs MG-350 SH.

These are the two Mr. Glass single-hungs, and they are built for different jobs. The MG-350 SH is the budget-friendly choice. It has a slim 2-3/16 in. frame, one glass build (5/16 in. laminated), sizes up to 53-1/8 x 76 in. or 48 x 84 in., and a +65/−80 psf rating for every listed size on drawing 23-02F. There is no insulated glass and no separate SMI product. The MG-200 is the heavier-duty single-hung. Its frame is 2-7/8 in. deep, it goes up to 53-1/8 x 96 in., and it has an SMI version for high-rise jobs. With 7/16 in. SentryGlas it is approved to +80/−140 psf on most sizes. Neither is thermally broken. See both on our Impact Single-Hung Window page.

Why the MG-200 costs more, even with the same glass.

The MG-200 costs more than the MG-350 SH for the same opening, even when both use 5/16 in. glass. The extra cost buys a deeper 2-7/8 in. frame, Ultralift balances, sizes to 96 in. tall, ratings up to +80/−140 psf and an SMI version. Choosing 7/16 in. SentryGlas or insulated glass adds more. Glass also sets the rating: with 5/16 in. glass the MG-200 is limited to +80/−80 psf and 76 in. tall. The SMI drawing requires approved shutters below 30 ft above grade. Insulated laminated Low-E glass brings the MG-200's U-factor to about 0.69, against about 1.05–1.07 for the MG-350 SH. Choose the MG-350 SH when your openings and wind loads fit its limits, and the MG-200 for tall openings, higher loads or insulated glass.

Sliding windows: MG-300 vs MG-350 HR.

The same split runs through the sliders. The MG-350 HR is the budget-friendly slider: a slim 2-3/16 in. frame, 5/16 in. laminated glass, ±65 psf throughout its schedule, and XO/OX units up to 83-7/8 x 63 in. or XOX units up to 111-5/8 x 63 in. The MG-300 is the heavy-duty slider in the mid-range. Its 2-7/8 in. frame takes oversized XOX units up to 127-5/8 x 74 in., and XO/OX sizes go to 96 in. wide. Glass runs from 5/16 in. and 7/16 in. PVB laminated to 7/16 in. SentryGlas and 11/16 or 7/8 in. insulated laminated, and there is an SMI version. Only the SentryGlas glass and its insulated version reach +90/−140 psf, and lower on large sizes; PVB glass is limited to +80/−80 psf. More on our Impact Sliding Window page.

Fixed and picture windows: MG-350 PW, MG-400 and MG-450.

All three are fixed picture windows. The MG-350 PW is the budget-friendly choice and matches the MG-350 SH and HR: a slim 2-3/16 in. frame, 5/16 in. laminated glass and ±65 psf, with some larger sizes rated as low as ±52 psf. It comes in sizes such as 48 x 84 or 24 x 168 in., and in shapes such as arches, circles and ovals; shaped units cost more than rectangles. The mid-range MG-400 matches the MG-200 and MG-300 with a 2-7/8 in. frame. It starts at 7/16 in. glass, offers SentryGlas and 13/16 in. insulated glass, and reaches ±100 psf with SentryGlas. The premium MG-450 handles very tall fixed glass, up to 48 x 180 in., with intermediate bars and +100/−130 psf. It can also combine with a separately approved impact louver (±80 psf).

Casement and awning: the MG-600.

The MG-600 is Mr. Glass's only casement and awning line. Both versions crank out, and up to three units can share one frame, with transoms. Single windows go up to 76 in. tall. Glass choices are 5/16 in. or 7/16 in. laminated and 11/16 in. insulated laminated, and both versions are rated +80/−100 psf. The casement and awning have separate Florida approvals, and their drawing notes rate them for large and small missile. Egress hinges are available where egress is required. Among Mr. Glass operable windows the MG-600 is the premium choice: it costs more per square foot than the single-hung and slider lines because of its stainless-steel hinges and operators, multi-unit frames and egress hardware. See our Impact Casement Window page and our Impact Awning Window page.

Sliding glass doors: MG-1500, MG-1000 and MG-1100.

The MG-1500 is the budget-friendly two-track door: a 5 in. frame, 7/16 in. laminated glass only, panels up to 48 x 108 in., and +65/−80 psf (LMI) or +60/−70 psf (SMI). Some sizes need heavy-duty interlocks to reach the top rating. The MG-1000 is the mid-range, heavy-duty two-track door, with 9/16 in. laminated or 1-3/16 in. insulated laminated glass, panels up to 48 x 144 or 72 x 96 in., and +120/−140 psf. Where water resistance is required, two-panel doors are limited to +70 psf without a sill riser, +80 psf with a 3-5/8 in. riser and +120 psf with a 4-5/8 in. riser. The premium MG-1100 adds a third track for up to six panels of 60 x 120 in., with the same glass and +80/−100 psf. Cost rises with thicker glass, bigger panels, more tracks and higher pressure.

Entry, French, pivot and coplanar doors.

The MG-3000 is the budget-friendly swing door: a single, a French pair or a door with sidelites, in 7/16 in. laminated or 1 in. insulated laminated glass or a solid panel, rated ±80 psf. The MG-3500 shares its approval, ±80 psf table and size limits, with a single door up to 48 x 120 in. It adds a 4-point multi-point lock, Siegenia smart-lock options and decorative solid panels, so it costs well above the MG-3000. The premium MG-4000 pivot door goes up to 72 x 144 in. with a hidden hydraulic pivot, rated +50/−55 psf standard. It is not approved where water-infiltration resistance is required, so it suits covered doorways. The thermally broken MG-2500T has concealed hinges, opens in or out and is rated ±70 psf; it is approved as a solid insulated panel door with no glass. See our Impact Entry Door page.

Window walls: MG-250 vs MG-6000.

A window wall joins units into a tall wall of glass. The MG-250 is the residential option: a single-hung window wall with a 6 in. system depth, built to take building movement. It suits condos, high-rise units and tall stacked openings. On the LMI drawing it reaches 48 x 120 in. at +80/−80 psf or 52 x 96 in. at +80/−115 psf, modules join side by side, and there are LMI and SMI versions. It is the premium Mr. Glass single-hung. The MG-6000 is a commercial, shop-glazed window wall with a 5 in. frame for mid- and high-rise buildings, up to 48 x 144 in. per unit and +100/−145 psf. Commercial projects can also use the MG-5000 and MG-5500 storefronts and the MG-2000 and MG-7000 curtain walls. See our Impact Window Wall page.

Mullions: MG-150 clipped vs unclipped.

Mullions join Mr. Glass windows and doors into larger stacked or side-by-side assemblies. The MG-150 comes clipped or unclipped under one Florida approval, FL40673-R3. Clipped mullions come in more sizes, up to 2 x 8 x 1/4 in., and carry ±150 psf. Unclipped mullions are 1 x 3 or 1 x 4 in., span up to 120 in. and carry +90/−120 psf. The drawings set the allowed span by load. The lower of the mullion or window rating governs the whole assembly, so a strong mullion does not raise a window's rating. A mullion is an accessory, priced with the openings it joins. More on our Window & Door Mullions page.

Questions about Mr. Glass.

Costs, timing, approvals, and the details worth asking about.

All your questions, answered
What is the difference between the Mr. Glass MG-200 and MG-350 SH?

The MG-350 SH is the budget-friendly single-hung: a 2-3/16 in. frame, 5/16 in. laminated glass only and +65/−80 psf. The MG-200 has a 2-7/8 in. frame, sizes to 96 in. tall, 7/16 in. SentryGlas and insulated glass options, an SMI version and ratings up to +80/−140 psf.

Why does the MG-200 cost more than the MG-350 SH with the same glass?

The extra cost buys the deeper 2-7/8 in. frame, Ultralift balances, taller sizes, higher ratings and the SMI version. Choosing 7/16 in. or insulated glass adds more.

Which Mr. Glass sliding door suits a very wide opening?

The three-track MG-1100 takes up to six panels of 60 x 120 in. For tall panels or high wind loads on two tracks, look at the MG-1000; for everyday patio doors up to 9 ft tall, the MG-1500.

Can the MG-4000 pivot door go on an uncovered front entry?

It is not approved where water-infiltration resistance is required, and its standard rating is +50/−55 psf. It suits covered or protected doorways in lower-pressure locations, and we confirm the approval for your opening before permitting.

Does the MG-2500T door come with glass?

No. Approval FL47317 covers it as a solid insulated panel door and includes no glass type. It is thermally broken, has concealed hinges and opens in or out.
